According to WHO, breastfeeding should be a must up to an age of 6 months for every newborn. Still, it can be extended along with solid diet, and it is no harm if one pursues breastfeeding up to 2 years of age.

From the very first day, I was sure of two things. One, that I would opt for normal delivery and second, breastfeeding my newborn completely for 6 months at least.

Best Breastfeeding positions & Tips for making it easy

One of the common challenges of breastfeeding that I faced was proper milk supply to my munchkin, so that I don’t have to depend on formula powder. As an anemic person, it was always a concern for me. A special thanks to my mother who paved the way for me in these difficult times.

Here in my blog, I would love to introduce the foods that helped me combating adequate milk supply issues. I hope this can help to resolve some of your issues too.

Here are some foods for boosting breast milk production for New Mothers:

1. Tapioca

Tapioca or sabudana is a rich source of carbohydrates. Tapioca porridge is a healthy diet as form of energy giver. It is also given to toddlers for weight gain. I generally had one bowl of sabudana kheer every day for boosting milk production.

2. Drumstick

A miracle food which should be a part of your diet. It can be used as a fry or cooked with other vegetables.

3. Oats

As a rich source of iron, it is a boon for iron-deficient persons. It not only provides requisite iron quantity, but also energy and keeps the bowel movement in good condition. A good serve of oats porridge with chopped fruits is a must try.

4. Cow’s milk

Milk is a source of protein and it should be consumed daily. It can be consumed directly or with other food items. Regular use of milk promotes proper lactation.

5. Raw papaya

It keeps your bowel movement in a good condition. Serving of raw papaya as salad or curry or boiled form can be a good choice for boosting milk production.

6. Bottle gourd

Basically, a summer vegetable, it is light for stomach and contains lots of water. It can be consumed with dal or curry and is a good source for mothers to increase their milk supply.
